Warren Triathlon attracts more than 100 athletes

More than 100 athletes from around the region donned the lycra for the Warren Triathlon.

More than 100 athletes from around the region donned the lycra and took part in the annual Warren Triathlon on Sunday, March 29.

The event included both individual and team events over a long or short course, as well as a mini-triathlon for kids.

All races started in the Warren Pool, and were followed by a bike and run leg - to finish back at the pool before the presentation and barbeque.

The winners and placegetters were:

Long course (400 metre swim, 21km bicycle ride and 4.5km run):

Individual female: Winner - Sarah Wyatt. Runners up: Alice Munro and Hannah Williams.

Individual male: Winner – Daniel Roberts. Runners up: Michael Howlett and Ben Orford.

Teams – Winner: ‘The Dream Team’ Gus O'Brien, Rod Mildner and Sally Morgan. Runners-up – ‘STA’ Sophia Heckendorf, Trent Heckendorf and Alexander Strom and ‘The Young and The Restless’ Alex Ramsay, Alex Druce, Milton Quigley.

Short course (200 metre swim, 14km bicycle, 3km run):

Individual Female: Winner - Al Ruskin Rowe. Runners up - Karen Alston and Makayla Langdon.

Individual male: Winner - Matt Cook. Runners up - Jaggar Smith and Patrick Stanley.

Teams - Winners: ‘Podium Chasers’ Ted Whiteley, Sophie O'Brien and Annabelle Quigley. Runners-up: ‘Team Retro’ Amelia and Buster Simmons and ‘Cotton Picker Drifters’ Angus Whittaker and Jaan Rudolf Vaher.

Mini (100 metre swim, 2km bicycle and 1km run).

Girls Winner: Ava Ward. Runners-up: Lizzie Murphy and Sailor Smith.

Boys Winner: Harry Fisher. Runners-up: Jude Rankin and Sam Redden.

Warren triathlon spokesperson Al Ruskin Rowe thanked the competitors and those who came along to watch and cheer the athletes on.

“We loved welcoming 100 competitors from around the region, including from places like Lake Cargelligo, Orange, Mudgee, Narromine, Nyngan, Trangie and Dubbo,” she said.

“A special thank you to our sponsors; Warren Pharmacy, Macquarie Toyota, Narromine Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, and Louis Dreyfus Company.”

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from Warren Shire Council and to Wendy Haywood and her team for the outstanding pool facilities.”

The Dubbo Hippos Triathlon Club assisted on the day with timing equipment; Warren Lions Club hosted the barbecue; and Ellerslie Lane for kept the coffee flowing.

“Congratulations to all the participants, there was huge effort and sportsmanship shown by everyone. We had a ball!” Al said.
