League Tag win a great game

The league tag game was one of the best seen for a long time, not only for the tightness of the scores, but the skills displayed, with hardly any errors between either team allowing for a high-quality game.

Bathurst was first on the board after a tight opening 15 minutes, Nyngan then hit back with a brilliant individual try by Emma Teale, cutting back inside and beating a number of would-be Bathurst defenders, to even the scores up six all at half-time.

Bathurst scored just about straight up after the break to lead 10-6. Nyngan then hit back shortly after, with a try out wide to Ellie Purtell after some very nice work inside from Grace Farmilo to level the scores up once again at 10-all.

This pair were back at it five minutes later, with a play down the blind side from 30 metres out that once again led to Ellie Purtell crossing out wide for another try out wide and gave Nyngan the lead for the first time in the game 14-10.

As had happened all game Bathurst then got a somewhat controversial try of their own and kicked the conversion to go ahead 16-14 with only six minutes remaining in the game. After a handover deep in our own half Nyngan, worked its way up the field to apply pressure to the Bathurst defence, before Mariah Delany sored underneath the posts off a great ball from Hollie Smith, Emma Teale then added the extras on the stroke of fulltime to secure the win 20-16.

The girls well and truly deserved the win, playing plenty of nice footy throughout.

Ellie Purtell stood out, not only with two great tries, but with never ending work in both defence and attack. Elle Mullholland had her best game since joining the Tigers, with plenty of important tags and some nice touches.

Courtney Watt got through a heap of tagging as usual, and looked dangerous with the ball when she got the chance closer in.

Grace Farmilo caused plenty of problems for Bathurst and created or had a hand in most of our attacking plays. A very nice win girls.

Nyngan 20 (Tries: Ellie Purtell 2, Emma Teale 1, Mariah Delany 1. Goals: Emma Teale 2/4) def Bathurst Panthers 16.

Under 18s try hard again

The U18s got the day underway, and as has been the story all year, they were a little light on for numbers, but they certainly didn’t shirk the task, with every player putting in for the full 60 minutes. Despite being beaten 34-6, with a few extra players Nyngan would have almost rolled their opponents.

Hard to single any players out, but best for Nyngan was Jayden Dunn, who tackled anything that moved as usual, Quaylan Orcher also went well, as did Oliver Fitzalan in his first game for the U18s.

Doccy Burley was rewarded for a good game, with a great try under the posts. These boys keep turning up week after week and deserve a big pat on the back for their dedication.

Bathurst 34 def Nyngan 6 (Tries: Doc Burley 1. Goals: Nick Bartley 1).

We’ve got a couple of tough road trips coming up, starting with Forbes in Forbes this Sunday. No doubt a huge contingent of Nyngan supporters will make their way over to cheer on the Mighty Tigers.
