Nyngan Tigers have tough day against Dubbo CYMS

The Tigers hosted Dubbo CYMS at Larkin Oval on Sunday (May 18) in what turned out to be a fairly ordinary day for Nyngan, result wise.

The girls ran into a well drilled CYMS outfit and never really got into the contest.

Having said that, they never stopped trying and are improving as a unit each week.

Ellie Purtell went well she just needs to get more aggressive as she can be a bit to placid at times, but I’m sure coach Quarmby will address that before next week.

Grace, Emma and Sarah were all busy as were Hollie and the McCarthy girls.

Taylor Barker is another who continues to improve.

The juniors were down on numbers again but battled on gamely against the strong CYMS outfit.

Julian McDougall went well once again, as did Brook Cadrakilagi who was our best.

Little Nick Bartley went okay too, don’t’ worry - he is improving each week.

The reggies were in front for the majority of the game before getting run down in the closing stages. It was three tries each, but the Tigers were unable to convert any of theirs which in the end proved the difference.

Captain coach Troy Evans was solid as usual. He gets through a mountain of work and adds a fair bit of starch to the boys.

Old Pothole was good, as were the Elwood Boys.

The final score was 18-12 to CYMS but could have quite easily gone the other way.

The first grade seen CYMS jump out to a 20-4 halftime lead and the Tigers looked like they were in for a long second half.

To the Boys credit they dug in and won the second half 4-0, which was a huge effort considering the amount of ball CYMS had.

Nyngan try scorers were Cale Dunn, who was a welcome return to the side after two weeks out with a shoulder injury, and Matty McDougall, who had a great game.

Best on field from the Tigers was Rory Quarmby, with Vinnie Leuluai and Aiden Birmingham also deserving a mention.

Next weekend the Tigers travel to Dubbo to take on Macquarie.
