Outgoing president, and coach of the U12s, Margot Elder congratulated her team, who won their Dubbo Netball Association Grand Final by a single point.

“You girls are phenomenal, and as a town and as a club we could not be prouder of your achievements,” she said.

“This premiership will hopefully stay with you for a lifetime - but at the very least, for a very, very long time. Congratulations to Bonnie Ryder, Alannah Smith, Amity Lane, Sophia Elder, Arniesha Smith, Addison Bartlett, and Eliza Tremain.”

“Nyngan is the smallest club in the Dubbo Netball Association competition. We field the fewest teams, we travel the furthest, and yet every week we show up with nothing to lose and everything to give. That’s the spirit of the Tigers.”

Mrs Elder gave an analysis of the season. The club played 14 rounds of normal competition which equated to 4760 km travelled per player (or 6720 km by the Elders who live out of town) and 71,400km travelled in total as a club.

She thanked her committee of Mel Selfe, Cath Skewpeck, Sarah Tremain, and Kristy Neill; and well as coaches Bec Smith, Molly Smith, and Justin Ryder; and manager: Jo Lane. “A special mention to Mel and Kristy, who don’t currently have children playing for Nyngan netball.

Your dedication speaks volumes, and we are all so very grateful for the time and effort you give to this club.”

Aside from the Dubbo competition, the Nyngan Tigers again hosted its weekly mixed netball competition on the Larkin Oval courts.

“I’m so excited to see so many adults keen to be active, have fun, and join in. For those unsure about joining next year - don’t worry about being game ready. We’ve had farmers in jeans and work boots out there! No judgement, just fun. Congratulations to ‘whistleblower’, on winning back-to-back premierships.”

The club also facilitated a ‘Net, Set, Go’ program for younger girls as an introduction to netball. There were over 35 children aged between five-10-years-old registered to participate each Thursday afternoon to practice netball skills and have fun.

The recipients of the club awards this season were:

U10s:

Best and fairest: Libby Finlay.

Coaches award: Malee Cook.

Most improved: Ivy Lane.

U12s:

Best and fairest: Alannah Smith.

Best and fairest: Arniesha Smith.

Most improved: Sophia Elder.

Mrs Elder has now stepped down as club president and handed the mantel on to the new committee which includes president Dione Bright; vice-president Catherine Skewpeck; secretary Sarah Tremain; treasurer Chantelle Finlay; and registrar Johanna Lane.
