Nyngan Golf Report - Sunday, April 26, 2026
A quieter long weekend on the Nyngan golfing calendar still delivered strong competition.

A quieter long weekend on the local golfing calendar still delivered strong competition on Sunday, April 26, as a solid field turned out for an 18-hole individual stableford event. While Saturday play was cancelled for the ANZAC commemorations, many locals instead made their way to Larkin Oval for a day of football, leaving Sunday as the main focus for golfers.
Despite the competing attractions, a healthy number of players took to the course in favourable conditions.
Brett Rope returned to form to claim victory with an impressive 40 points.
Producing a consistent round, Rope carded 21 points on the front nine before finishing with 19 on the back, his only blemish a wipe on the 13th hole.
Just one point behind was Greg Matheson, who finished runner-up on 39 points. Matheson matched Rope’s 21-point front nine but fell just short coming home with 18.
A three-way countback decided third place, with Steve Millar awarded the position on 38 points. Marina Kennedy and Chris Dennis also finished on 38, placing fourth and fifth respectively after the countback.
Nearest-to-the-pin honours were spread across the field. Jodi Douglas claimed the second hole, Graham ‘Tex’ Tomek was closest on the fourth, while Chris Dennis enjoyed a standout day in this category with wins on the 14th and 16th. Visiting golfer Steve Matheson, from Griffith, took out the 17th.
In handicap movements, Millar was adjusted from 16 to 15, Dennis from three to two, and Matheson from nine to eight following strong performances.
Organisers were pleased with the turnout and competition, particularly given the busy ANZAC Day weekend schedule, and look forward to another strong field in the coming weeks.
