Wednesday’s Stableford

Another fabulous week of golf kicked off at Nyngan with the usual Wednesday (June 11) nine-hole stableford in pretty cold conditions, but this didn’t stop the golfers with another good-sized field taking part.

The winner with 20 points was Brett Rope, who is playing himself back into form of late, and is stringing some nice rounds together.

The runner-up prize and third place were decided by a countback, with Reg Herbert getting the nod over Chris Dennis, with both players finishing with 19 points apiece. Greg Matheson picked up the nearest the pin, while Lisa Herbert collected the Lucky Player prize for the day.

Don’t forget Wednesday golf is played each and every Wednesday morning and it’s only over nine holes…so you still have plenty of time to get things done around the house or in the yard after golf is done. Unless of course you’d also like to join the weekly euchre players that are always up for a game and a few laughs following golf each week.

Saturday’s Monthly Medal

On Saturday (June 14) we played the June instalment of the MSD Mining Solutions Monthly Medal, and the winner was Greg Corby with 40 points.

Corbs has now shaken off the ‘bridesmaids’ tag after a couple of runner-up placings in last year’s medal games.

A nice round with a consistent 20 points on each nine holes, well done Corbs.

Runner-up and knocked off in a countback was Jet Griffiths also with 40 points, he was out of the blocks a lot better than Corbs with 21 on the front nine, but a couple of one-pointers on the back nine proving costly. Still a very nice round Parso!!

Third place went to Brendan Smith with an honest 38 points, to shade Ashton Deebank in a countback, who also finished with 38 points.

It’s worth pointing out Ashton played the front nine holes in even par, which is a great achievement for a young bloke who hasn’t been playing the game that long, well-done Asho!.

Toby Smith was the final prize winner in fifth place with 37 points. Plenty of pins out there to be won, Lisa Herbert was too good on the second, Will Black picked up a double, on the fourth and 17th which included a birdie on 17.

Brett Rope played a very nice shot to the ninth, as did Mitch Williams on the 12th, and another of our young guns Jakeel Pack put her on the 14th to claim the pin there. Congratulations to all our winners on the day.

Sunday’s 4BBB

On Sunday, June 15 we played a four-ball-best-ball (4BBB), with some incredible scores recorded. The winners with a whopping 48 points were the team of Reg Herbert and Ashton Deebank, this pair were out in 25 points and home in 23, the boys shared the scoring around pretty evenly and should be very happy with their golf.

Runner-up and with a score that would usually win most other 4BBB events with 46 points were Wayne Arandale and Lisa Herbert. Pin winners for the day were Graham Tomek on the second, Greg Corby over the cowal on the fourth, Reg Herbert was nearest in two shots on the eighth, Lisa Herbert played a nice one to win the 14th as did Brett Rope on the 17th.

Cumnock Open and WDLGA Sandgreens

We also had some of our ladies head over to new ground to Cumnock for their Ladies Open, which also doubled as the WDLGA Sandgreens team event.

The girls had a great time, and were very impressed with the course, and they must of really enjoyed it and got amongst the prize winners.

Prolific ladies open winner Mandy Martin added another title to her already impressive list of open victories by winning the A-Grade Scratch, we managed to get the quinella with Deb Matheson runner-up to Mandy.

Annette Webster continued her good form to win the B Grade Handicap section.

Also, the Nyngan team of Deb Matheson, Dee Stephens and Mandy Martin managed to run second in the teams’ event, which was a fantastic effort on a course they hadn’t played before.

Well done girls and well done to all the ladies that travelled from Nyngan, I’m sure they would have had a great time, they always do, wherever they go.

This Week’s Golf

Back at home this weekend there will be a four-ball multiplier, similar to a best ball but instead of adding your stableford points together you multiply them, makes for an interesting time when your partner gets a ‘four-pointer’ and you get nothing for a wipe-out. There will also be an individual run in conjunction with this event. The other event is an 18-hole individual par event. Also on Sunday is the Cobar Men’s Open Tournament.

The following Saturday will be the annual ‘President’s Day’ and the traditional right-handers versus left-handers sponsored by ‘El Presidente’ himself, Croc Read.

The day is an individual stableford event, and is always one of the best days on our golfing program.
