The Nyngan Bowling Club was abuzz for the weekend with players and their families from Bathurst City, Baradine and Condobolin in town to vie for the state finals berth.

Nyngan secured the Grade Five flag with a 59-48 win over Condobolin in beautiful sunshine on Sunday morning and will now play on June 29 and 30 against 15 other zone champions from around the state at Cabramatta/St John’s Park.

Bowling Club manager Jacob Homer said it was a fitting way to finish after a competitive local season.

“We played six games of sectional play against Bourke, Cobar and Trangie to qualify for the playoffs on the weekend against the other playoff qualifiers,” he said.

The Nyngan Grade Five team on the weekend consisted of three teams of four players.

Team one included Sis Beetson, Steve Read, Wayne Kearns and Don Smith.

Team two had Jacob Homer, Albert Homer, Greg Herbert and Kane Nankervis.

Team three had Marshall Williams, Barry Beetson, Adrian Taylor and Connor Ryan.

Included in the winning side were three generations of one family: Albert Homer and Sis Beetson, their son Jacob, and his son Kane Nankervis.

Tim Walsh, Teressa Rose, Tim Ryan, Glenn Smith, Greg Weight and Guy McGlynn have also been involved in the grade five campaign for a finals berth.
