Drought Conditions and Fuel Issues
It has not been a great start for our region coming out of a hot dry Summer into a dry Autumn, with all around us receiving record breaking rains, it has definitely been a hard pill to swallow watching our region miss out with most of us suffering under drought, feeding stock and the lack of water. We can only hope that they have the forecast for our region wrong and that we get some reprieve soon.
The fuel issue in the country is not lessening the already strained cost of living. It brings a very concerning uncertainty for everyone from individuals to get to work, the school buses, small and large business in our shire - we will all be affected one way or another. We cannot change the cards we have been dealt but hopefully we won’t get to the point that we run out of fuel in our shire. Please also be mindful of increased crime and fuel theft, particularly farm and business owners in the area. Lock up as much as possible to protect yourselves.
Roadworks
Roadworks throughout the shire over the next fortnight to be undertaken are heavy patching, and bitumen resealing work on sections of the Mitchell Highway, Barrier Highway, and Arthur Hall VC Way, completing the planned resheeting of New Bogan Road, and construction of the Nyngan Emergency Bore pipeline, along Old Warren Road will continue. We urge motorist to observe traffic signage to ensure traffic and worker safety. There will be a number of work locations on our highways.
Ovarian Cancer and Bowel Cancer Awareness Month
March is Ovarian Cancer and Bowel Cancer Awareness month. With both diseases often showing no symptoms, they can go undetected until advanced stages. Early detection is the key to saving lives, prioritise your health, get regular check ups even if everything feels fine. If you notice the slightest change in your body, have it checked, you never know it could be the one that saves your life.
Bowel cancer is often considered an old man’s disease, in actual fact it is the third deadliest cancer for women, with 46 per cent of women diagnosed every year. Often symptoms for women are pushed to the side and mistaken as IBS, hormonal changes, pregnancy and child birth, menopause or endometriosis. You are never too young to get cancer, know your body and get it checked.
Seniors Week
Hope all of the shires’ senior citizens are enjoying the Senior’s Week celebrations throughout the shire, thank you to all of those who have assisted and helped make the week possible.
