Service providers from around the region wet up stalls and provided information and refreshments.

Nyngan Community Hub coordinator Dee Walsh said the idea for the expo came from the ‘Dying to Know’ workshops held in Nyngan each year, which provided legal, financial, and medical information on dealing with end of life.

“There is a lot of services available to seniors, but it can be difficult for them to find out exactly what is available and how to access it,” she said.

“This first expo has been a great success and I think we will repeat it – there was a lot of interest from the local community and also the service providers who came.”

The recent changes to the federal government aged care act which were introduced at the beginning of November were explained.

These changes include a new emphasis on a person’s rights, choice, and control over their care.

There is also a streamlined assessment process, and the removal of residential care place allocation for most providers, giving individuals more choice in providers.

Mrs Walsh said information on all of the services represented at the Seniors Information Expo can be found in the Nyngan Community Hub office.
