Gibson and Hazelton secure wins at Parkes
Ashley Gibson and Kieren Hazelton both scored wins at the Parkes Picnic racing meeting.

Raced - Parkes on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
A win each for two Gilgandra trainers and Izzy Neale continuing her recent run of success when riding a winning double were the big stories to come out of Parkes’ Picnic meeting on Saturday.
Neale is apprenticed to Dubbo trainer Brett Robb her overall tally is 50 wins with 15 of those wins coming over December and January.
First leg of the Neale double at Parkes came aboard the Kieren Hazelton, Gilgandra-trained Deepfield King in the 1600 metres PFD Food Services/Nella Contracting Maiden Plate.
Leading all the way, Deepfield King ($14) won by over a length from Lagoon (Mathew Cahill, $8) and Cobocco (Jacob Stiff, $11).
After tracking the leader to the home turn, Wasted Days ($1.85 to $1.65 favourite) was given more rein by Izzy Neale and raced to win by more than two lengths from Bushwalker (Mathew Cahill, $5) and One More Thing (Ashleigh Stanley, $6) in the Sharon Jeffries Racing/ Parkes Farm Centre Class 2 Handicap.
Trained at Dubbo by Brett Robb for Wendy Robb from Nyngan, Wasted Days has now won three races and been placed seven times from 15 starts.
Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries sponsored that race and later her horse Obsessive Nature just missed out in a photo finish to the 1000 metres Hydraulink/ Kennards Hire Benchmark 58 Handicap.
Obsessive Nature (Jacob Stiff, $5.50) flashed down the outside however the leader, the Brett Thompson, trained Cumboogle (Ryan Bradley, $4.60), lasted to win by a head with Aerobatic Warrior (Carly Frayer, $61) a close third.
Unlucky at recent starts, the Jim McMillan, Wellington-trained Naval Officer won the 1600 metres Telescope Tyres/Parkes Services Club BM 58 Handicap in good style.
From well back, Naval Officer (Adrian Layt, $4.60) powered home to beat Geostorm (Mathew Cahill, $8.50) and Tillman (Pierre Boudvillain, $9.50).
The Ashley Gibson, Gilgandra-trained Alpine Rose has been very consistent and deserved the win in the 1400 metres Parkes Courier Service/MCA Engineering Class 2 Handicap.
Well ridden by Ken Dunbar, Alpine Rose ($11) had a nice run behind the leader In The Nic Of Time (Damon Budler, $3) and beat that horse by a half neck while Missile Defence (Dale Cole, $11) filled third place.
Tash Burleigh brought only one horse to Parkes and the Goulburn trainer took Mosgold home as the winner of the 1400 metres Sullivan Mining and Industrial Benchmark 82 Handicap.
With Kody Nestor in the saddle, Mosgold led throughout for a one length win over Macleay (Ryan Bradley, $21) and Bavette (Ellen Hennessy, $3.30 favourite).
Jockey Mathew Cahill and trainer Michael Lynch, both from Cowra, combined to win the 1200 metres Parkes Real Property/C & S Stockfeeds Maiden Handicap with Bounding Bon.
Straight to the lead, Bounding Bon ($1.85) breezed home by more than three lengths from Mr Gunna Do (Ellen Hennessy, $31) and Fair Master (Josh Richard’s, $4.60).
Parkes Jockey Club raced twice during January on very hot days however with excellent promotions attracted good crowds to both meetings.
