With Warren Shire Council mayor, Greg Whiteley

Over the past month, we’ve been getting on with the job across Warren shire - particularly on our roads, with crews continuing maintenance, flood recovery and safety works. It’s the kind of work that keeps people moving day by day.

It was great to see such a strong community response to improved local recycling in our Recycling Services Survey. Thanks to everyone who had their say.

We’re looking forward to rolling out kerbside recycling to eligible properties across Warren. More on that later this year.

Our Draft 2026/2027 Operational Plan is now on public exhibition. If you’ve got a view, I encourage you to submit your feedback.

I’m always happy to sit down with any ratepayer to talk through where we’ve been, where we’re at and where we’re heading over the next 12 months.

Council also put forward a submission to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan Review.

We’ve worked hard to make sure our community’s voice is heard as part of that process and we’ll keep you updated as it progresses.

I know law and order remains front of mind for many people. Council continues to liaise closely with the local police and advocate for better outcomes for our community.

ANZAC Day was a great reminder of what this community is all about - people looking out for each other. It’s something we can all be proud of and something I look forward to continuing to see across the shire.

Great news for Warren shire residents - kerbside recycling is on the way.

Thanks to strong community feedback in the recent Recycling Services Survey, council has approved a new recycling service to make it easier for residents to recycle closer to home.

Survey results showed more than 80 per cent of residents already recycle or try to, with many currently travelling outside the Shire to do so. The new service will make recycling more convenient and accessible locally.

Eligible households will receive a 240L recycling bin, with the service expected to begin from October 2026, subject to final planning. The annual cost will be around $150 per household.

Levee Rehabilitation Works Continue

Works on the next phase of levee rehabilitation have recommenced following a temporary pause due to elevated Macquarie River levels.

With river conditions now suitable, contractors have returned to site and begun preparatory works, including re-establishing survey control points to support the next stage of construction. Specialist piling equipment has also been delivered, with setup for pile wall construction now underway.

This phase will include piling, construction of a toe retaining wall, rock revetment works, and improvements to the levee top and footpath.

Subject to weather and river conditions, remaining works are expected to be completed within the next two-to-three months.

Council crews have continued maintenance and flood recovery works across the Shire, with grading, patching and rehabilitation completed across a number of local and regional roads.

On the Roads

Grading and flood repairs have taken place on SR69 Mullengudgery Road, SR28 Rothsay Road, SR97 Kianga-Marebone Road and SR93 Yarrandale Road, with additional maintenance carried out on SR16 Notts Road, SR6 Retreat Road, SR2 Sanctuary Road and SR65 Old Warren Road.

Heavy and tar patching have been undertaken across RR7515 Warren Road, SR68 Bundemar Road, RR333 Carinda Road, SR64 Ellengerah Road, SH11 Oxley Highway, SR37 Collie Road and SR58 Nevertire-Bogan Road.

Roadside slashing and vegetation management continue across key routes including SR64 Ellengerah Road, RR347 Collie-Trangie Road and SR65 Old Warren Road.

Work is also progressing at the SH11 Oxley Highway and RR202 Marthaguy Road intersection, focusing on road safety and rehabilitation improvements.
