Gular only had 15 players and a few teenagers in its side, but despite the lack of substitutes they played a solid two halves of football and at times challenged the Bulls.

Bulls coach Rob Kennedy acknowledged the win but said his side needed to work on avoiding mistakes.

“They only had 15 players which was a credit to them. We had 23 and although we were winning comfortably by 30-odd when we used the bench, they scored easily on occasions,” he said.

“So yes, our attack was good but our defence still needs plenty of work. We are improving but have a fair way to go to be a genuine competitor.

“You can’t get 26 points scored against you against a struggling team and think it’s all positive.”

Kennedy said there were plenty of good signs for the Bulls.

“Matty Sheather with his first game was good and will only get better with a few more under his belt. Boots Bailey was very good again with all the forwards strong, and Will Boag was excellent.”

“Boagy is showing the team what’s it’s like to play when you are properly fit! He hasn’t missed a training session and puts in all the time.”

“New Irish recruit Lyndon “Kenny” Brannigan was also excellent at centre and will also get better as he plays more footy.”

Player points this week were awarded to Henry Weston, Kenny Brannigan, and Will Boag.

Meanwhile, the Bulls tri-tag team has continued its unbeaten run, defeating Gular 22-nil.

The team, coached by Danielle Plummer and Sarah Pearce has yet to concede a single point in the new Western Plains rugby women’s competition.

Plummer and Pearce usually play for the Dubbo Kangaroos women’s side on weekends but they were able to stay in Nyngan this weekend to watch the team.

“We actually wagged playing for Dubbo today to come along and watch, because we've heard such good things, and we wanted to see what the girls are doing. Clearly, we are stoked with how the girls played today,” Pearce said.

“They brought everything we've been teaching them onto that field. It's only their third game, but they play like they've played together for years.

Players points went to Sophie Currey, Jasmine Bourke and Courtney Watt.

The Bulls travel to Walgett next Saturday.
