Once again, the Bulls had a strong line up of available players which kept them well paced on the field.

It was a clash of the top of the Western Plains ladder and the bottom dwellers, and Gular were up against the strong fast Nyngan pack from the start.

The Papua New Guinean midfield trio of Wesley Vali, Kunak Late and Jonah Kautu worked together impeccably, intuitively knowing where each other was on the field and constantly seizing opportunities.

Kunak’s turn of speed was mercurial and he was rewarded at the end of the game with the three points and named “players’ player”.

Team captain Brendan Nelson led by example and was consistent all game, with a high tackle count and some charging runs. He was awarded the two points.

The one point was given to warhorse Harry Holmes.

Assistant coach Sarah Pearce commented on the Bulls’ “hard work’” all over the field, with tries scored by both forwards and backs.

Unfortunately, the match was called off early, due to a neck injury to number eight Jock Lawry.

Gutsy campaigner Tom Cleaver joined Lawry on the road to Dubbo Base Hospital after suffering a fracture to his eye socket.

The Bulls’ Tri Tag women played one of their best games all year against the competition leading Gular team.

Although the final score was 26-14, Gular’s way, it was no indication of the closeness of the match.

The Bulls had three certain tries disallowed based on the ‘no dive’ rule, and the Gular coach described the Nyngan girls as the biggest threat in the competition.

Coach Keiran Smith complimented his team on their positive attitude and dedication to both training and game day.

The three points went to Lucy McLaughlin, two to Lara Clarke and one to Lily Burton. Lily was also named players’ player.

The Bulls will travel to Walgett next Saturday for one of the most challenging encounters of the season.

Walgett at home is always a daunting prospect.
