Bogan Shire Waste 2 Art competition winners
Five birds and a mini recycling bin all made from rubbish were the overall winner of the Bogan Shire Waste 2 Art competition.

The installation titled ‘Bin Chickens’ was made by Abigail McLaughlin. The birds were constructed using soft drink cans which were papier-mâchéd and then covered with feathers made from the pages of old children’s books.
The bin was created from a pool chlorine bucket, which was also papier-mâchéd and painted.
The ‘Bogan Express’, a steam train engine and carriage made from scrap metal by Donna Pumpa was first in the open three-dimensional class.
Jenny Deacon’s metal sculpture of local musician Al Riley was second in the open 3D, ahead of her ‘Miss Piggy’, which was third.
The Nyngan Public School students dominated the primary school classes. In the two dimensional class, first place went to ‘Stuff Turtle’, second was ‘Snakes and Ladders’ and third was ‘The Poisonous Snake’.
In the primary three-dimensional class, the ‘Wood Truck In and Out of Town’ was first; ‘MLT 7000’ was second; and the ‘Outback Toy House’ was third.
The theme for this year’s competition was toys. Participants were encouraged to either create artworks from old toys, or to make a toy-themed piece.
The judges were Bogan Shire Council mayor Glen Neill, councillor Emily Stanton, and manager development and environmental services, Jackson Williams-Hedges - who filled in for Bill Tink from NetWaste, who had to withdraw at the last minute.
The winning entries will now progress to the regional final which will take place in September in Dubbo.
