The Nyngan Bogan Bulls rugby club celebrated its 70th anniversary with a marquee lunch on Larkin Oval on Saturday, May 16.

Around 140 past and present players and supporters donned the blue and white to celebrate the milestone, and listen to guest speaker and dual rugby union and league international, Mat Rogers.

Bulls president Josh Lister welcomed the guests and thanked the organising team and club sponsors.

“Everyone who is here today has put something towards this club so thank you. We’ve had a great season so far and I hope that continues for our 70th year. It’s a special milestone for any club to reach,” he said.

The master of ceremonies was Bryan “Bubba” Perry who introduced Mat Rogers, giving a run down on his playing career in both league and union.

Mr Rogers spoke of his time as a player and also touched on subjects including mental health and inclusivity.

He also participated in a question and answer session, covering topics from Ricky Stuart, Crusher Cleal and Wayne Bennett to his most feared opponents on the footy field.

Following the formal proceedings there was an auction of Bogan Bulls and Wallaby jerseys and a painting. All items were purchased and donated to the Bulls’ Rugby Clubhouse.

The feature listing was a signed 2005 Wallaby jersey worn by Rogers in a game against Ireland, which was purchased for just over $3000 by the Duck Creek Picnic Races Committee.

There was also a player Calcutta which raised more than $10,000. The players were divided into groups.

The top selling mens’ group included players Wes Vali, Manning Doughty, Aaron Duncan, Jack McLaughlin and Will Mudford; and the top women’s group included Rosie Ryan, Eva von Peiun, Courtney Cochrane, Felicity Yarnold, Jade Cockburn, Montana Tatcell and Juliette Denny.

The Bogan Bulls had a BYE for the weekend due to the Country Week championships.
