The track was in great shape for the first of the two annual Nyngan race meetings, and after a substantial renovation the historic grandstand was again centre stage.

On the track the favourite Foxwell, trained by Dubbo-based Michael Mulholland, denied the Rodney Robb-trained Nannu a second successive ANZAC Cup. In second place was Pacific Warrior, and third was Hit Song.

Croc Read drew Fowell in the Calcutta at the Nyngan RSL Club the night before, and sold him to Matt Sheather, who claimed the $4284 prize.

Foxwell was ridden by Wendy Peel, who rode four winners to be awarded the most successful Jockey on the day. Scone-based Nikki Pollock was the most successful trainer with a win with Il Trevere in the Ray Barrow Memorial Maiden Plate, and several minor placings.

Samantha Portelli from clothing boutique, Ruby Maine in Dubbo judged the ladies and gentlemen sections, selecting Sophie Doughty from Nyngan for the “classic lady” and Ebony Martin, also from Nyngan for the “contemporary lady”. The best dressed gentleman was Frank Roberts from Dubbo.

Amanda Thorpe judged the teenager and children’s fashions, choosing Sophie Walsh from Nyngan as best dressed teen; Thomas Sanders from Dubbo as best dressed child; and Mackenna Sanders from Dubbo as best dressed tot.
